Fees \ Free places

Recently the government has developed a range of childcare offers to help parents to access and pay for childcare. To ensure that parents know about the offers they have launched a Childcare Choices website. The site tells parents about all of the 2, 3 and 4 year old childcare offers, tax free childcare and provides parents with a childcare calculator which helps them work out which offer is best for their family.

Are you eligible for help to pay for your childcare?

The Government helps many families with childcare costs, whether you have toddlers or teens, you could get support.

Visit The Childcare Choices website (https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/) to find out more about what you are eligible to receive and how to make childcare as cost effective as possible.

Little Scholars is able to offer 30 hours funded childcare places for eligible families. If eligible you will be entitled to access the 30 free hours from the beginning of the term following your child’s 3rd birthday.
All 3 and 4-year-olds in England currently receive 15 hours a week government funded early education. If their parents are living and working in England, 3 and 4-year-olds may be entitled to 30 hours funded childcare which is over 1000 hours per year free!

To access the additional 15hours each week, parents must apply for the extended entitlement through the www.childcarechoices.gov.uk website. Without a 30hour code, we will be unable to offer you a place for your extended entitlement. We advise parents to apply early for their code, as soon as their child turns three and remember to revalidate your claim when reminded.

We have limited spaces for children to attend for only the 15/30 funded hours. Please also note that this will only be a term time place, as the nursery only receives funding for a limited number of weeks each year. Please see the notices in nursery for the term dates.

Many families increase their child’s attendance at nursery as they move into the preschool class. An increase in the number of days children attend can help prepare them for the transition to ‘big school’.
Typical Funded Sessions

Morning sessions are Monday-Friday 8.45am- 11.45am. Lunch will not be provided, however we will provide a snack in the middle of the session. (If you want your child to stay for lunch, different sessions are available, please call the manager to discuss further).

Afternoon sessions are also available. The timings for this session are Monday to Friday 1.00pm-4.00pm. Meals are not included in this session but a snack is provided in the middle of the session.
Children attending for just the thirty hours a week, term time, do not need to pay any fees upfront. The nursery will wait for the funding to arrive. Any additional services or sessions, i.e. meals will need to be paid for in advance as per the nursery agreement.

It is a strict requirement of Derby City Council that all funded children attend nursery regularly. If regular attendance is not adhered to, you risk losing the funding permanently. Attendance is monitored and if it is noticed that your child is not attending nursery regularly we will discuss with you the importance of attending regularly and discuss options to help you achieve this. If your child’s attendance does not improve, then we may have to withdraw your child’s place from nursery.

Please contact the nursery if you need further clarification on this matter.
